As beekeepers, we know quite a bit about the superpowers of honey and other bee-derived byproducts, such as royal jelly, propolis, beeswax, and pollen. We call these amazing byproducts – Pure Bee Goodness!™
This Pure Bee Goodness™ is the foundation for our:
What makes all this Pure Bee Goodness™ so powerful as skin care ingredients? Today, we share how this food for your skin works its wonders.
Let’s start with plain ol’ raw honey …
"Plain" but not ordinary! Raw honey is rich in vitamins and minerals. It is also loaded with antioxidants, which help to reduce free-radicals in the air and offset the effects of aging.
It moisturizes and hydrates skin, and because of its viscosity, honey provides a barrier to help keep skin moist but protected from the elements.
Raw honey is also naturally antibacterial and antifungal – that’s why honey never spoils. It’s the one food in the world that will last forever. (Awesome.)
Raw honey can be used on all skin types—including acne, as it's non-comedogenic, which means it has clarifying properties and won’t clog your pores.
It has been used since the time of ancient Egypt to treat skin and care for wounds. It is said to have been a major part of Cleopatra’s daily beauty routine.
What else goes into our Pure Bee Goodness™?
- Bees Wax – Excellent for helping lock in your skin’s natural moisture. It’s also what gives our Lip Goo long-lasting wear.
- Royal Bee Jelly – This is the substance that is fed to the larva and helps to transform what would normally be a worker bee into the queen bee (hence, Royal Jelly). It is rich in natural hormones, B-Complex, amino acids, essential fatty acids, minerals, enzymes, acetylcholine, lecithin, collagen, gamma globulin, and other vitamins. It nourishes dry skin and helps reduce fine lines. Thanks, Royal Jelly!
- Bee Pollen – This is one of nature’s most balanced foods. It's a powerhouse of naturally occurring multi-vitamins, minerals, proteins, amino acids, hormones, and enzymes. It contains everything your skin needs to regenerate itself.
- Propolis – The resinous substance gathered by bees from leaf buds or the bark of trees and bushes. They mix this resin with honey to create a sticky "cement" to plug holes and cracks in their hive. We love it because it’s one of nature’s most powerful antibacterial agents! It can actually be applied directly to wounds to help speed up the healing process. It’s one of the most important ingredients in our Healing Honey Stick.
- Fun fact about Propolis: If an intruding animal, such as a mouse or lizard, gets into the hive, the bees will sting the intruder to death. (Yikes!) Because the animal is too large for them to carry out of the hive, they will instead embalm it with propolis in order to prevent it from decomposing.
In addition to its inherent benefits, honey and other bee-derived byproducts also have the ability to blend well with other natural ingredients and essential oils that are known for their own superpowers.
